Your lessons, on every student's phone
Show the groove in the lesson, send it home as a link, and give them a reason to practise it. Built by a drum teacher, for his own lessons first.
Put the song on the screen, loop the bar they are stuck on
Build the groove before the lesson, or with the student. Press Focus, and the bar they keep missing goes round and round while you play along.

Show a subdivision, then switch it, on one pulse
Eighths, triplets, sixteenths, bar by bar, while the beat never moves. The student hears exactly what changes when the feel does, and learns to move between them without the time moving too.
Four bars, four feels, one pulse
A bar of quarters, then eighths, triplets and sixteenths, all on the same pulse. Hard to do, and seriously satisfying when it locks.
Press play, then tap a bar's feel to change it. In the app, any subdivision, with accents and rests in each bar, and the whole sequence sent home as a link.
This is a taster. In the app you can shift between any subdivision and time signature:
- Half
- Quarter
- 8th
- Triplet
- 16th
- Quintuplet
- Sextuplet
- Septuplet
- 32nd
Give a whole bar or a single beat its own, and accent or rest any note.

The groove goes home with them
Two ways, and they work together: on paper for the folder, and as a link on their phone. No more grooves scribbled on the back of a note.
A proper drum chart for their folder
Any groove or whole song you have built, as real notation. Print it for the stand and the folder, or save it as a picture and send it.
Printing charts is Pro.

A link that plays, with a note from you
Send a beat, a whole song or a metronome setting by link. Your student taps it and it plays, at the tempo you set, ready to loop: five minutes a day with no account, ten with a free one. Make the free account together in the last two minutes of the lesson, and they get the full ten from the first evening.
A metronome setting carries the Tempo Trainer climb you set and a note from you, right there on the page they open.
Sending links is Pro. Playing what you sent is free: five minutes a day without an account, ten with one.

Up to tempo at home, a step at a time
Set the climb in the lesson: where the part is clean today, the tempo it is heading for, a few BPM at a time. Send it as a metronome link and the climb goes with it, so they practise the plan you made, not a tempo they guessed.
For a groove, send the beat with your two numbers, and they switch the Tempo Trainer on under it at home.
The Tempo Trainer is free all day on the metronome with a free account; under a groove it runs in Beats' ten minutes a day, unlimited on Pro.

Homework that runs itself
Put the week's practice in a routine: the groove, the tempo, how long, the Inner Pulse step. Send it, and your student presses Run.

Start every lesson with the pulse test
Tap along, the click drops out, were you early, late or dead on? Three tries, the best counts. Their best stays on their own phone, so next week has a number to beat.
- In the lessonThree tries on your screen, before you start.
- Pass it onThe score goes to the whole class as a link, its own score card in the chat.
- Next lessonWhoever came back closest gets to choose the groove.

I built it for my own lessons first
I teach drums, singing and music production to more than thirty private students, plus a band class every week, and it is in almost every drum lesson I teach. Whatever we run into there is fixed before the next one.
It is the tool I wanted on the other side of the kit: the groove ready, the hard bar looped, and something for the student to take home that they actually open.

In their own words
The mother of one of my students, a 14-year-old drummer, sent me this. I hadn't asked for it.
“Your app is absolutely phenomenal. He thought it was so much fun to practise with: Shift, sextuplets and more, with both the Tempo Trainer and Inner Pulse. He finds it really motivating. He was almost (only almost) sad to go on a school trip, because it meant he couldn't practise drums.”
