Lifebeat Timekeeper

Build an inner pulse you can trust

Most tools keep the beat so you don't have to.This one teaches you to keep it yourself.

It hands the timing back to you, little by little, until you carry the beat with more confidence than ever.

I set out to build the most beautiful, pleasant-sounding and rock-solid timing tool imaginable. This is the core metronome and it is free for everyone. Use it in your browser or add it to your home screen on your phone, so you have it handy at every practice session.

Whatever you play

Built by a drummer. Made for whoever is counting

Just because you're not a drummer, doesn't mean that you don't have to keep time.
Thelonious Monkpiano · 1960Written down by Steve Lacy. Whatever you play, time works the same way.

The metronome is free without limit. Everything else here is ten minutes a day on a free account, and unlimited on Pro.

01 · Build

Your beats, bar by bar, with real drums

Hear the grooves you want to learn, or play along to the most flexible, awesome sounding drum track.

In Lifebeat Timekeeper you can program any beat or full song. Any time signature, any subdivision. Note for note, with ghost notes, accents and flams. Reorder it, loop any part, undo it, all while it keeps playing underneath you.

A beautiful sounding seventies Ludwig, big toms, a 24 inch kick, Zildjian and Paiste cymbals, recorded hit by hit in Lifebeat Studio. Or switch to the curated electronic kit, your call. Program it yourself, borrow from the preset beats and songs already built, or just let it be the drummer you practise with.

Some might call it overkill, but I am so glad I did it. The drums sound great to my ears, but you be the judge. Go have a listen!

02 · Drill

Repetition, without the rewinding

The hard part deserves its own loop.

You can loop anything, from a single beat to several bars, and your loop can run straight over the barline where the fill meets its landing.

Work it up to speed with the Tempo Trainer, or test your timing with Inner Pulse.

Two taps set it. This one holds one Verse bar and the Fill after it, so the landing gets practised too.

03 · Shift

Eighths, triplets, sixteenths, without missing a beat

Shift is the tool I've been missing for years.

Give every bar or beat its own feel and learn to shift smoothly between them. Hear it, play it, feel it.

A bar of eighths, a bar of triplets, a bar of sixteenths, all on the same pulse. Hard to do, and seriously satisfying when it locks.

Learn to hear every subdivision that way and your timing becomes incredibly strong.

Every bar here carries its own feel, and the notation above follows it through the change. The tempo never moves.

You choose exactly where the silence falls: two strips, the count over your beat.

04 · Inner Pulse

Own your rhythm from the inside out

Here is where the app steps back and your own time steps in.

The click, or the groove, disappears, by your choice or by surprise. When it comes back it tells you the truth: were you early, late or dead on? This is the tool that builds your rhythm from the inside out.

Playing along while a groove drops out bar by bar and comes back is the most fun thing in here, and the hardest.

What you build in silence, alone, is what ends up carrying a room full of people.

Following a click is easy. Holding your own time is the actual skill.

05 · Tempo Trainer

Fast is easy once it's clean

The Tempo Trainer moves the tempo underneath you, so your hands stay on the instrument and your attention stays on the part.

Use it to scale up to speed gradually, or down to gain even greater control. It's harder than you think to go slower!

Thirty-two bars, and it will stop there.

06 · Practice Timer

Set it, forget it, and play until it says stop

Set a number of bars, or a number of reps once a loop is running, and it stops when you get there.

It counts minutes too, either real time or only the time you were actually playing.

Hand it the start and the stop as well, and the only thing left for you to do is play.

Who built it

One drummer, 1,400 versions, zero shortcuts

Mikas in his studio, with the drum kit, the piano and the microphones behind him
The room every drum sound in the app was recorded in.

I'm a drummer with a master's degree from the Royal Academy of Music in Aarhus, and I've practiced with a metronome for twenty years. I started prototyping on 20 March 2026 and have not stopped since: 450+ hours and past 1,400 versions so far, because I am, as anyone who knows me will tell you, quite the perfectionist.

The perfectionism shows up in small places. In the way you interact with the tempo dial, how the pulse is shown and the sound of the click. The kick and the toms even ring shorter at fast tempos than at slow ones, so a quick groove never smears. Every decision is taken with care to make the most satisfying interface for all your timing practice.

Most of it was tested the slow way: me, behind the kit, playing along for hours and fixing whatever got in the way. My son tried to break it at 300 BPM in 32nd notes while clicking on everything at once, and it kept playing. My daughter had opinions about every screen, and she was usually right. Students and drummers I work with caught the rest.

I teach drums, voice and music production, past thirty active private students. What I want for every one of them is the same thing this app is built for: the freedom that arrives when time stops being something you count and starts being something you feel. I still play shows, and twenty years of festival stages and small rooms have taught me the same lesson over and over. Your time has to hold when there is nothing to lean on.

Free and Pro

What's free, what's Pro, said plainly

The metronome is free, all of it. Everything else is ten minutes a day with a free account: Beats, Shift, Inner Pulse and the Tempo Trainer, at full depth, a taste every day. Pro takes the clock off for unlimited practice, opens the whole library of presets and exercises, and keeps everything you build in your own library, ready on any device at any time.

Pro is $7.49 a month, or $75 a year, which is 2 months free. Right now the launch discount takes 30% off both, so you pay $5.24 a month or $52.50 a year, and it keeps coming off for as long as you stay subscribed.

And the discount stays yours. The app keeps growing, more beats, more exercises, more to practise with, and whatever Pro costs later, you keep paying 30% less than the people who arrive then.
