The metronome that teaches you to play without one
A metronome that drops out while you keep playing, so you find out if the time is really yours. Gap click practice for every instrument, right in your browser.
Can you keep the beat when the click stops?
Tap along, then it goes quiet. Keep going. When it comes back: were you early, late or dead on? It’s harder than you think.
Own your rhythm from the inside out
The test shows how hard it is to keep time on your own. Inner Pulse is the practice for it: the click, a rhythm or a full drum groove drops out while you keep playing, by your choice or by surprise. Three modes, gentle to merciless: Pattern, Surprise and Fade.
Choose which bars drop out, and keep playing until they don't throw you.
Tap a beat to silence it.

What you build in silence, alone, is what ends up carrying a room full of people.
Why the silence worksThe click can take you far. Just not all the way
A click you can always lean on keeps the time for you. Take it away now and then, and the time starts to come from you.
- Under anything you playThe click, a rhythm you set, or a real acoustic drum groove: whatever you practise with can go quiet.
- Count what you carryWhen the click comes back, you hear at once whether you held it, and the app counts the bars you carried and keeps your best.
- The most fun, and the hardestPlaying along while a groove drops out bar by bar and comes back is the most fun thing in here, the hardest, and the best feeling when you nail it.
Inner Pulse is free for ten minutes a day with an account, under the click or a real drum groove. Unlimited with Pro. Or try Pro free for 7 days.

What is gap click practice?
You play along with a click, and the click goes quiet for a while: a beat, a bar or more. You keep playing through the silence, and when the click comes back you hear whether you held the tempo. It trains the time you carry yourself.
Does it work for any instrument?
Yes. Piano, guitar, bass, strings, winds, voice or drums: anything you play in time. The click, a rhythm or a full drum groove can drop out.
Is it free?
You can try the test and the three modes on this page now. In the app, Inner Pulse is ten minutes a day on a free account, and unlimited with Pro.
Does it run on my phone?
It runs in the browser on phones, tablets and laptops, and opens like an app from the home screen. Nothing to install.

Built by a drummer who teaches
I'm a drummer and teacher. Twenty years with a click in my ears made me a better drummer; the last stretch I had to learn on my own: holding the time when nothing holds it for you. That is what Inner Pulse is for.

- 30+private students I teach: drums, singing, production
- 1,400+versions of the app since March 2026
